1. WHAT ARE COOKIES?

Cookies are files that can be downloaded onto your device through the websites you visit. They are essential tools for providing various services in the information society. For example, they allow a website to store and retrieve information about a user’s or device’s browsing habits, and depending on the information obtained, can be used to recognize the user and improve the services offered.

2. TYPES OF COOKIES

Depending on the entity that manages the domain from which the cookies are sent and processes the data obtained, there are:

  • Third-party cookies: Sent to the user’s device from a domain not managed by the editor, but by another entity that processes the data obtained.

Depending on how long they remain active:

  • Session cookies: These collect and store data while the user accesses a web page. They are usually used to store relevant information to provide the requested service on a single occasion. They are deleted when the browser or session is closed.
  • Persistent cookies: Data remains stored on the device and can be accessed and processed for a period defined by the cookie controller, which may range from a few minutes to several years.

Depending on their purpose:

  • Technical cookies: Allow navigation on the website and the use of different options or services such as identifying the session or accessing restricted areas.
  • Personalization cookies: Allow the user to access the service with predefined general features, such as language or browser type.
